You may not have heard of Modtone Effects before reading this review, but I can guarentee you'll hear about them a lot in the future. Modtone has had nearly 20 years of designing and manufacturing music products, and their customer satisfaction is clearly a representation of that. Their website is easy to follow, they hold a weekly pedal giveaway contest, and their quality and prices are incomparable. So I tried out a Modtone product, the Powered Pedal Board. At $120 retail, you don't expect as much as your standard $200 pedal board. However, you'd be surprised! All in one, the first word that comes to mind is convenience. It comes with everything you need to hit the ground running-- velcro, cables, power adaptor, carrying case and, of course, the board itself. This means that you're spared the shopping most boards require. The MT-PB8 also powers eight pedals at once. Unless you play a really bad-sounding guitar or effect-heavy music, eight pedals is all you need. So after only mere minutes of setup, the Powered Pedal Board is working smoothly with no flaws in quality and no dents in expectations. The board is large enough to fit all your pedals, yet light enough to be carried around easily. The case is a nice perk too, since all hard-shell guitar cases tend to be without pockets! What does this board have that the others don't? Well, this pedal board is simple. One tiny adaptor powering the whole board. Each cable running from the pedal to the power bar at the top. It's nearly impossible to fail at setting up the Powered Pedal Board and that's my favourite part! |
As usual there has to be something to improve on, so here is my only suggestion: velcro is not the strongest bonding material to hold pedals. Anyone who has flipped a pedal board upside-down with velcro attachment knows what I'm talking about. It isn't the strongest stuff and losing a pedal can be quite costly. I should also mention that there isn't an on/off switch for the board, so you have to unplug the adapter to turn it off. That doesn't particularily bother me, but I can see that being a complaint for some guitarists. That being said, the MT-PB8 is worth every penny. It's time Modtone seriously entered the guitar effects conversations because they've proved that they can compete with all other manufacturers. If you're looking for a pedal board, check out Modtone-- it'll save you shopping time and your wallet! 4/5 |
